Mission & Goals
The Edible Classroom cultivates academic achievement, healthy lifestyles, and environmental stewardship through garden-based, experiential learning.
Our Purpose
The Edible Classroom is a non-profit organization that partners with schools to create and sustain learning gardens where children, families and communities engage with nutritious food from seed to table.
Our Goals
To provide year-long sustainable garden programming in Lancaster County and surrounding areas.
To develop a customized garden program for each school where teachers, staff, administration and community work together for the common goal of supporting our children’s education.
To provide standards-based learning opportunities for every student in the garden.
To help students develop the skills necessary to tend a garden from seed to table.
To provide a safe and therapeutic environment for exploration and discovery.
To improve attitudes toward eating fresh fruits and vegetables by increasing children’s interaction with growing and preparing real food.
Our Values
We value children and their families and seek to inspire healthy eating habits through creative, engaging and informative garden-based programming.
We value our schools and educators and seek to serve them by providing excellent garden-based programming that complements the state standards.
We value this earth and incorporate environmentally friendly activities and practices.
